I was born in Cecil, PA , located 5 miles south of Bridgeville, PA on St. Patrick’s Day 1963. I went to Cannon McMillian High School, graduating in 1981. From there I went first to West Virginia University and then to Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Graduating with a BSBA in Business Management and Administration in 1985. I then accepted my first job in New Jersey as an assistant manager for Roy Rogers Restaurants ( Happy Trails to You ). In 1987, I came back to Cecil, PA to take over my father’s business. He had a convenience store, restaurant and ice cream shop. I ran this operation from 1987-2001, when economic conditions caused me to make the decision to close down the operations. That same year, I got married to my wonderful wife, Debbie. I then got into the Home Mortgage Arena. I got experience initially with title and settlement companies. I worked as a closing coordinator with Howard Hanna Real Estate Division. I then worked as a Mortgage Loan Processor for Urban Fulfillment exclusively for Suntrust Mortgage. that position lead me to my current position as a Loan Processor with Clearview Federal Credit Union.
My Barbershop History goes back to 1991 and the Washington, PA Chapter. I joined the Presidents of Harmony that year. I was asked to come to a meeting of the chapter by a Great Bass Singer and wonderful man, Bill Klaphake . Bill has since passed away and is greatly missed by all who knew him.
From the Washington Chapter, Bill took me along with other members to attend a Tuesday Night Practice at the Pittsburgh South Hills Chapter. Once I met the members of the Keystone Chorus, I found a new Barbershop home. I began to attend regular Tuesday night practices and this went on for a while.
Then due to commitments and other events, I was not able to come to the meetings for quite a while. This all changed however by a chance encounter with Bill Smith from the Keystone Chorus at the Giant Eagle near our homes. He told me that they all missed me there and that I should try to come back. I took his advice and I have been back now since March of 2017.
I am now trying to get a good quartet together with members of the South Hills Chapter, or other Chapters in the area.
I am glad that I returned to singing Barbershop because I found that I really missed that close harmony that only four voices can produce. And Yes, I have come to realize “ IT’S GREAT TO BE A BARBERSHOPER.”
